The Man Who Saved The Day
(The Ballad of Captain William Jackman)

Well, me name ‘tis Will Jackman
and this I'm here to say,
Let me tell you all the story of
the man who saved the day.
They call him the greatest hero,
for bringing lives ashore,
‘cause he swam those icy waters off
the coast of Labrador...

Six hundred yards he traveled,
with a man upon his back,
swimming against the current,
‘twas courage he did not lack,
when all was said and done now,
twenty seven was the score,
he had brought them all to safety
and asked if there were more...

A voice cried out, "There is one,
but she's sick and elderly,
and it sure would be foolish,
to risk your life to see.
It seemed to make no difference,
for he headed out again,
and when he finally reached her,
all ‘twas not in vain.

Her life was slowly driftin'
towards the clouds above,
she said goodbye, then kissed him,
and offered all God's love.

Well, the news was fast to travel,
‘bout a feat that seemed unreal,
some said ‘twas not possible,
‘less he was made of steel.
But...he was no man of our breed,
he was sent from up above,
and God had given him three things,
courage, strength and love...

Me name ‘tis Will Jackman,
and this I'm proud to say,
always remember the story of
the man who saved the day.
